During a recent routine inspection by the Sacramento County Environmental Management Department, Sunshine Kitchen received a Red Placard due to cockroach infestation. According to the official report, the food facility was ordered to close immediately, and its health permit has been temporarily suspended.

Sunshine Kitchen serves Southeast Asian BBQ and Asian fusion dishes, including a variety of traditional and fusion menu items.

According to the official inspection report, the restaurant received a Red Placard as the officials found a cockroach infestation in the restaurant. The restaurant was ordered to immediately cease operations, and its health permit was suspended.

The list of major and minor violations includes:

  • The officials noticed vermin activity in the establishment. The report mentioned that several German cockroaches were sighted near the sink area.
  • The inspectors also observed that the restaurant employee was washing a large stockpot and skipping a significant sanitation step.
  • During the inspection, the handwashing sink lacked soap and was inadequately equipped.
  • The report cited 3 flies in the kitchen and rodent droppings in front of the storage area.
  • The official inspection report also flagged several other sanitation violations, like the back door being left open, the monitoring thermometer in several refrigeration units being missing, and food items (onions and canned milk) being stored directly on the facility floor and under storage racks.

The Sacramento County officials advised the restaurant to use department-approved professional pest control to eliminate the vermin infestation. As per the official report, the restaurant must complete all corrective actions listed in the official inspection report before requesting reinspection. Sunshine Kitchen must fix and correct the major violations mentioned in the report in order to receive a green placard. The Red Placard, given during the September 25 inspection, must remain on display at all times.
