Cañon City residents will soon have a new spot for authentic Texas-style barbecue as Dickey’s Barbecue Pit prepares to open its newest Colorado restaurant. According to a press release from the brand, its latest development will be located at 127 Justice Center Rd, Unit T.
The expansion is being spearheaded by longtime franchisee Bobby Rusnak, who owns and operates more than a dozen Dickey’s locations across Colorado and also serves as Area Developer for the Colorado and Wyoming region. He first became involved in the business in 2016 and then took over operations from his parents in 2021, Global Newswire reports.
The new restaurant will offer dine-in, takeout, delivery, and catering, featuring Dickey’s signature pit-smoked meats, cooked on-site in hickory wood-burning pits, along with homestyle sides and family packs. It joins a Littleton location that Rusnak has been planning, which we covered and will open soon.
A Dickey’s spokesperson told What Now Denver that construction is done, but they are waiting on final permitting before they can plan an opening date. The eatery is taking over the property that used to house Old Terreros Mexican Restaurant.
“Bobby Rusnak represents the very best of what Dickey’s is all about. Family, legacy, and leadership. As a second-generation franchisee taking the reins from his father Bob, Bobby brings both tradition and innovation to the table. We are proud to have him serving as an Area Director and excited to see him leading the charge for the next era of growth in his markets,” CEO Roland Dickey, Jr. said.
A third-generation family-run company, Dickey’s was founded in 1941 in Dallas. It has grown into the world’s largest barbecue concept, with more than 500 locations across the nation, as well as a presence internationally in eight other countries.
