A new waterfront destination is set to captivate Broad Creek Marina on Hilton Head Island with expansive windows and sweeping views.

“You’ve got gorgeous marsh views and sunsets–picture perfect atmosphere for locals and tourists. It makes sense to have a waterfront seafood restaurant. The property came to us, so we had to jump on it,” Chris Spargur told What Now Charleston.

Marsh Side, a new SERG Restaurant Group concept, will be led by Spargur in partnership with chef Chris Carge, Paul Norris, Mike Marignoni and Kim Keppel. The restaurant is slated to open in spring 2027.

Marsh Side will offer both indoor and outdoor bars, with seating designed to take full advantage of the waterfront setting.

“The outside is kind of like Nantucket influenced with shaker tiles. We’re going to really do it up with the landscaping and just have really beautiful scenic pathways, paving the way up to the restaurant,” Spargur said.

He continued, “Inside, I want it to evolve naturally. Of course, being on the water, it’s going to have that nautical theme–it’s going to have a lot of salvaged woods, open and airy, a lot of windows. We’re just celebrating the view.”

The concept embraces the laid-back Lowcountry lifestyle and welcomes guests of all ages with its family-friendly atmosphere. A dedicated children’s play area with lawn games will let kids have fun while parents unwind.

“We make our restaurants very approachable, so a family can come in off the boat in some board shorts and a t-shirt and feel just as comfortable as the table next to them who are celebrating an anniversary,” he said.

Chef Carge will lead the culinary program, highlighting high-quality, locally sourced ingredients.

“He’s really pushing the local aspect–local seafood and local vegetables. It’s going to be relaxed, clean, simple, fun presentation and he’s got a Mediterranean influence on it which is interesting because we don’t really see that around here,” Spargur said.

He continued, “We’re going to have a raw bar so he’ll be taking advantage of all the local shellfish, the oysters–he’ll be shucking oysters to order, the shrimp and daily fresh catches–seafood right off the boat.”

Marignoni will craft the cocktails, blending creative flavors with Lowcountry-inspired flair.

“He’s taking the same kind of approach that chef Chris is taking; he’s sourcing local products. He’s got local honey from beekeepers, local fruit and even using local spirits–there’s a gin and rum distributor here,” Spargur said.

Marsh Side’s logo, a blue heron, reflects the marsh, good luck and the natural beauty of the Lowcountry. Spargur said he is eager for guests to experience the new destination.

“I’m just excited about the whole development process and seeing it all come together,” he said. “The next best part is seeing the guests reaction and hearing feedback.”

Who is SERG Restaurant Group?

SERG Restaurant Group, founded by the late Steve Carb, has grown into one of Hilton Head Island’s leading hospitality groups, with a diverse portfolio including pizza, pasta, barbecue, sushi, breweries and breakfast spots.

Marsh Side honors Carb’s legacy while marking a bold step forward for the company.

“This is kind of the first restaurant where the younger partners are taking the lead on it. Myself and four of our partners, who were all raised under Steve Carb’s wing, are leading the charge,” Spargur said.

Spargur said Carb’s guiding principle was “every guest, every time,” and the group plans to carry it forward.
