A brand new dining destination in Fairplay was in business very briefly before closing, citing labor challenges and saying that they will redo the opening next year. Colorado Cantina, located at 456 Front Street, was only open for less than a month.

Its short-lived span started in late August, when the company posted that it was doing a soft opening. The South Park Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony the following week. But by mid-September, the company posted it needed kitchen help, followed by a sudden closure announcement on September 21.

“We’ve made the tough decision to close for the season due to staffing challenges and will plan to reopen next spring,” it reads. “Thank you to everyone who’s supported us through our first season — we’ve loved getting to know this community and can’t wait to welcome you back with full service next year. This is just the beginning — see you in Spring 2026!”

The restaurant offers mountain-fresh American cuisine with a Southwest flair. While there was some confusion online regarding the name and branding, the company clarified that it’s not a Mexican food spot.
