The Pick Up Stix at 1112 Irvine Avenue in Newport Beach is currently undergoing some kind of construction project, according to plans filed with the county. Health department records show a project was submitted last month for a “food remodel” at the Asian fast-casual eatery.

While details of what is being done and when it will be completed are unknown, the location is listed as temporarily closed on its Google Business profile and the Irvine Company’s retail center website. The company did not return requests for comment.

Pick Up Stix’s roots go back to 1989 when a Chinese immigrant opened the first location in Rancho Santa Margarita. Today, the brand operates dozens of restaurants across Southern California, Nevada, Utah, and Texas. It serves classic Asian fast food like House Special Chicken, Orange Chicken, Mongolian Steak, and Cream Cheese Wontons.

The corporation is part of a larger portfolio of fast-casual Asian dining chains from West Coast Capital, which also owns and operates Pei Wei Asian Kitchen, Leeann Chin, and Mandarin Express. Collectively, the brands comprise the second-largest QSR Chinese restaurant portfolio in the U.S., according to its website.
