After winning over the city from the streets, a popular Charleston food truck is bringing its flavors to a downtown storefront.

Cachita’s Kitchen is run by Jose Cruz and Erik Hernandez. The popular food truck already serves Mount Pleasant, Indigo Reef Brewing in Charleston and Tapas Taqueria in Isle of Palms, with the new storefront adding to its growing footprint.

The Mexican restaurant, named Best of Mount Pleasant in 2024, serves classic street tacos with chicken, beef, al pastor, chorizo, carnitas, shrimp or fish.

Standouts include the “Fishin’ in the Dark,” with blackened mahi-mahi, jalapeño tartar, black bean and corn salsa, and crispy onion straws; the “Mexican Sushi Burrito Roll,” a tempura-coated seaweed wrap with crab, shrimp, mango, asparagus, jalapeño, carrots, cream cheese and cilantro, served with yum yum sauce; and the “Mexican Cuban Sandwich,” with a Gigante bakery roll, carnitas, ham, sliced avocado, pepper jack cheese, pickled jalapeños, pickles and yellow mustard.

While an official opening date has not been announced, a Facebook post on Sept. 26 teased, “Coming soon!” A follow-up post on Sept. 30 added, “We’re hiring at Cachita’s Downtown! We are looking for servers and a bartender to join our team!”

For updates, visit the restaurant’s website and follow along on Instagram and Facebook.

What Now Charleston reached out to the Cachita’s Kitchen team, however, they have not yet responded. This article may be updated.
