Sacramento Fast Food Restaurant Cited in Recent Health Inspection

The Sacramento County Environmental Management Department observed several food safety issues at J Spot Kitchen on October 10. A yellow placard was issued to J Spot Kitchen as a result of the violations. Its health inspection report mentions that a reinspection can be conducted in the next two to three days.

On October 10, following its routine inspection, the Sacramento County Environmental Management Department prepared a detailed report. Detailed findings are discussed below.

The handwashing sink in J Spot Kitchen’s kitchen was blocked with multiple plastic buckets. A built-up residue was noted around its faucet and faucet handles.

Inspectors noted in the report, several foods were not held at the proper temperatures This includes fried chicken wings (at 74°F) in an oil-dry pan, which did not follow hot temperature control measures. Improper thawing of fish fillet (at 68°F) in a container at the prep sink was highlighted in the report.

Mac and cheese on a 3-compartment sink basin measured at 54°F at J Spot Kitchen. An improper thawing of short ribs in a stock pot measured at 55°F. Sausage in the prep sink measured at 49°F.

According to the inspection report, a valid food safety certification was missing at J Spot Kitchen.

The report also noted unsanitary conditions, such as rice paddles stored under the cooker lid. The mechanical teeth of a tabletop can opener at the burger spot were found unclean.

The report also mentions shelled eggs stored above ready-to-eat foods in a 2-door front display refrigerator, which is not approved. The inspection report of J Spot Kitchen added that a pot containing beef was found directly on its floor. Several cans of country gravy were also stored directly on the floor at the front service counter.

Oil and grease accumulation was noted on the sides of the Sacramento facility stove. The floors under the cook’s line had heavy oil/grease accumulation. Inspectors reported the microwave handle was unclean with dried, sticky residue

The report added that the restaurant was found using a non-commercial rice cooker and an unapproved plastic scooper.

Follow-Up Inspection

J Spot Kitchen’s inspection report stated that if more instances of repeat violations were found in the next routine inspection, enforcement actions may apply.

The report warned that repeated violations in the next inspection could lead to enforcement actions. The reinspection will be carried out within 24-72 hours at the burger spot at a fee of $268. A green placard will be placed if the violations are removed by then.
