Jacksonville is about to turn up the heat when Bold Birds Nashville Hot Chicken opens its second location.
The restaurant, which won a “Best of Jacksonville” award in 2020, will open its second location at the Lakewood Promenade at 5635 San Jose Boulevard in Lakewood, according to an Instagram post by JaxWithJosh. The restaurant’s permitting application was approved by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation late last month. An opening date has not been announced.
Bold Birds specializes in Nashville hot chicken — a specialty that’s famous for its cayenne-oil mixture that’s rubbed onto chicken giving it flavor — and plenty of heat. That’s the base — with each Nashville hot chicken restaurant providing their spin by adjusting the heat or even adding other peppers and spices.
As the name implies, hot chicken originated in Nashville, with Prince’s Hot Chicken credited as being the original hot chicken restaurant. Today, Nashville hot chicken can be found in many cities, with a number of restaurant — like Bold Birds — specializing in the spicy, savory bird.
Owned by Jerry Brown and Hughes Brown, Bold Birds allows customers to enjoy their chicken at a spice level that works for them. The range starts with “classic” that has no spice to the “hotter than a mother clucker” for people who want to feel a burn.
In addition, Bold Birds serves wings, salads, and salads. Be sure to save room for banana pudding for dessert.
