Looking to get out of work offshore and settle down, Charlette Sholes-Carollo and her husband were inspired to create Camellia Point Public House — a craft beer spot in Slidell with family-friendly vibes. When it opens in November, Camellia Point will have 12 craft beers on tap, bottled beer, non-alcoholic options, and craft cocktails.
Sholes-Carollo recently told What Now New Orleans that there will be something for everyone. When it comes to beer, there will be popular bottles, but also hard-to-find beers.
“We’ll have domestic beers, and the beer list is kind of open to having everything,” she said “But we’re trying to focus on having small local brewers. We also intend to have a lot of limited-release kegs.”
The opening menu will feature comfort food dishes like a chicken cutlet sandwich, smash burgers, and loaded tater tots. Sholes-Carollo said the menu will expand after the initial opening phase.
Camellia Point will also have a large outdoor patio with a kids’ play area. Inside, there are board games and a Nintendo Switch. It’s all part of the mission to connect with families and folks in the community.
“We want to take the term ‘public house’ to heart as much as we can,” Sholes-Carollo said. “We plan on having comment cards for people to give us feedback, like what they would like to see on the menu or on tap. We just want to be a big meet-up place for everybody in the community.”
