Baan Noodle and Rice is a popular Thai restaurant that serves authentic Thai and Southeast Asian comfort food.

During a recent inspection, the restaurant received a yellow placard for its unsatisfactory compliance and multiple health code violations.

According to the official inspection report, the Sacramento County Environmental Management Department flagged the restaurant for:

  • The report stated that the handwashing sink was inadequately equipped due to a broken paper towel dispenser. The report noted this as a major violation and instructed the operator to keep handwashing facilities always clean, unobstructed, and accessible.
  • The report mentioned that bean sprouts at 64°F and half & half at 44°F were stored on a shelf beside a cooler. As per the guidelines, all potentially hazardous foods (PHFs) must be stored at 41°F or below at all times.
  • During the inspection, the restaurant failed to provide a valid food safety certification, and its posted health permit was outdated.
  • The report also noticed improper storage of several food items, including raw eggs stored above vegetables in the cooler, open containers of sugar and rice, and bulk noodles also stored on the floor. The inspection report recommended the operator store food items in a clean, safe place at least 6 inches off the ground.
  • Debris and food buildup were found throughout the kitchen, including the floor sink and the bottom of the upright freezer.
  • The inspection report also mentioned that one of four hood lights was out. Plumbing under the soda fountain lacked a 1-inch air gap, and a mop was left on the floor—mops must be hung to air-dry.
