Building Homes for Heroes, Lowe’s, and the Town of Mooresville broke ground on Freedom Hill during the Town’s Veterans Day celebration on November 11. The project will create Mooresville’s first residential community specifically for veterans and first responders, offering safe, supportive housing for those who served.
Veterans Day Parade Ended with Freedom Hill Ceremony
The Veterans Day ceremony drew community members, local leaders, and the veterans who will benefit from the new neighborhood, according to PRNewswire.
The day kicked off with the Town of Mooresville’s annual Veterans Day Parade and concluded with a groundbreaking ceremony at Freedom Hill. The event even featured a skydiving display by former Special Forces parachutists.

Founder and CEO of Building Homes for Heroes, Andy Pujol, Lowe’s Executive Vice President of Stores, and Gulf War Veteran Joe McFarland, and Mooresville Mayor Chris Carney turned the first shovels of soil, marking the milestone moment.
Community to Build 15 Homes for Veterans
Freedom Hill is a purpose-built community, created to honor the services of veterans and first responders. The community plans to offer stability, support, and opportunities to its future residents. It is expected to include up to 15 homes for veterans, as per PRNewswire.
“For more than twenty years, the passionate and patriotic team at Building Homes for Heroes has honored those who served and sacrificed for our nation, with unwavering determination, love, and respect. Freedom Hill now takes that mission to new heights,” said Andy Pujol, Founder and CEO of Building Homes for Heroes.
Building Homes for Heroes also offers a range of support services, including mortgage-free units. Services include physical and mental health resources, emergency aid, and financial counseling when needed.
These services are meant to meet the unique needs of the veterans and first responders. The project aims to deliver 50 homes in 2025 and celebrate its 500th completed home by 2026, while Building Homes for Heroes will assist more than 5,000 veterans and first responders through its programs this year.
Through the efforts of Building Homes for Heroes, Lowe’s, and the Town of Mooresville, this project stands as a symbol of gratitude for veterans and first responders.
