A rapidly growing “fast fine” food hall concept is on its way to Newton.
Wonder will take over the former Vitamin Shoppe space at 170 Needham St, according to a post in the Newton Real Estate Forum Facebook group. The innovative eatery is also planning additional locations in Massachusetts, including Natick, Burlington, Framingham, Acton, and Belmont.
Founded in 2018 by New Jersey entrepreneur Marc Lore, Wonder Restaurant Group is headquartered in New York City and reimagines dining through its tech-driven network of delivery-first “food halls.” Each location houses a lineup of virtual restaurants featuring menus from celebrity chefs and acclaimed eateries across a variety of cuisines.
Last year, the company made headlines with its acquisition of Grubhub and Seamless, creating a delivery “super app” that merges Wonder’s own kitchens with Grubhub’s 375,000+ restaurant partners. The platform lets users mix and match items from multiple sources—local restaurants, grocery stores, and Wonder’s own kitchens—in one order.
With more than 80 locations already operating across the Northeast and dozens more on the way, Wonder is building toward an ambitious future. The company’s long-term goal is to develop AI technology that can tailor meal recommendations to users’ personal tastes, health goals, and even biometric data.
An opening date for the Newton location hasn’t been announced yet, but Wonder’s first Massachusetts hubs are expected to debut in Natick, Belmont, and Framingham in February 2026, followed by Acton in March. The Burlington space is also slated to open sometime in early 2026.
