Les Alchimistes, a newly rebranded cafe emphasizing creative and collaborative coffee experiences, has opened in Montreal at 5380 Saint-Laurent Boulevard.
The cafe has taken over the space formerly known as Les Impertinentes and shares it with the Ballet Hop dance studio, according to Silo 57. Ownership recently changed hands to Mathias, a self-employed real estate broker who initially made an offer on behalf of a friend but ultimately purchased the cafe himself. The transformation includes a gradual rebranding process to reassure longtime patrons while introducing the new name, decor, and concept.
The name Les Alchimistes reflects themes of adventure, experimentation, and “magic formulas” for drinks, inspired in part by Paulo Coelho’s novel The Alchemist. The menu was redesigned, introducing inventive beverages such as the black sesame latte while maintaining classic favorites. Customers are encouraged to suggest new drinks, and the cafe plans to rotate limited-time offerings alongside its regular menu.
The cafe’s philosophy emphasizes exploration and collaboration, encouraging community involvement in both events and the creative process. Les Alchimistes plans to host its next event on November 30, 2025, inviting customers to participate in tastings and interactive sessions. The space is designed to foster connection, creativity, and experimentation.
The cafe space has built a loyal following in the neighborhood for its quality drinks and welcoming atmosphere. The transition to Les Alchimistes represents a new chapter while preserving the cafe’s reputation for consistency and innovation.
Mathias plans to expand the cafe’s offerings while keeping the core concept intact. The name and approach are meant to create a space where customers can feel involved and explore new flavors, embracing the idea of alchemy in coffee and drinks.
