Portillo’s is continuing its expansion in Texas with the opening of a new location at the San Jacinto Marketplace, which is currently under development. According to a recently filed permit, the new Portillo’s is expected to open at 5000 E Fwy in Baytown next Fall.
The permit details that construction on the new addition of the hot dog chain is slated to start by mid-March next and wrap up in September 2026.
Portillo’s has expanded rapidly in Texas, with early locations like the one in The Colony becoming some of its highest-performing restaurants. There are now at least 11 Portillo’s restaurants in the Lone Star State, with more, like the new location set to open in the new San Jacinto Marketplace, in development.
The hot dog eatery will be joined by several other establishments, including Pluckers, Sam’s Club, and an EOS fitness. The development is scheduled to open in December 2026.
Portillo’s was founded in 1963 in Villa Park, Illinois. Dick Portillo started with a single hot dog stand called “The Dog House” before rebranding and renaming his climbing to fame hot dog chain into Portillo’s, the hot dog food chain’s website reads. Today, there are more than 75 locations in ten states, with plans to open more than 900 locations in the coming years.
Dubbed “unrivaled Chicago street food,” Portillo’s offers hot dogs, sandwiches, burgers, salads, and a host of sides to accompany any of those you’d like to chow down on. Portillo’s even has a pasta dish, desserts, and shakes.
Porillo’s at Baytown is expected to open at 5000 E Fwy in the San Jacinto Marketplace in Winter 2026.
