Sam Beng has spent years working in the coffee industry, and now he is gearing up to open his own place. Sammy’s Boba and Coffee is expected to open in late January at 1762 Hudson Bridge Road in Stockbridge, Beng told What Now Atlanta.
“I wanted to bring a third space down here that is like your neighborhood cafe,” Beng said. “I just want somewhere where people know the owner and the owner knows them, where it’s an intimate relationship and it’s not just a cash grab. I find cafes really cool and interesting and fun.”
Beng has been operating as a pop-up at local festivals. Sammy’s Boba and Coffee will open in a 1,700-square-foot space, and Beng hopes to bring some of the cafe culture of North Atlanta to South Atlanta. It will offer boba tea, coffee and snacks such as fries, chicken wings, popcorn chicken and ice cream.
Beng hopes that the sit-down cafe will become a great studying and hangout spot for the community.
“I want to make a difference in the community and offer a space where people can come to me and I brighten their day, even if it’s just for five minutes,” Beng said. “I think it’s really cool when you meet someone who’s actually passionate about their craft and they care about other people.”
In the future, Beng does not foresee extensive scaling of the concept, as he hopes to focus on quality. He sees opening perhaps two locations.
