Known for its babka and hot chicken, Mekelburg’s in Williamsburg is closing after a decade in business. The space combines a gourmet grocery, cafe, bar, and restaurant under one roof.

Williamsburg Says Goodbye to Mekelburg’s

Mekelburg’s is known for offering a mix of food and drinks, which has been a major selling point for the eatery and grocery. The establishment is closing its doors on January 1, announced the team in a social media post.

“Ten years. Mek’s opened its doors in 2015 in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, with big dreams, loud music, and a whole lot of heart – and now, ten years later, we’re preparing to close our last set of doors in Williamsburg,” the post read.

The team said the restaurant spent the past decade building relationships with friends, neighbors, regulars, and first-time visitors.

“Ten years of feeding people we love. Ten years of regulars who became family, neighbors who became friends, and first-timers who somehow always found their way back. Ten years of memories made over babka, hot chicken, wings, beer, trivia, late nights, early mornings, and everything in between,” the post continued.

The restaurant expressed gratitude to the employees who made the experience joyful and diverse and helped the restaurant through tough times.

“Through it all – including the wild, unforgettable COVID years (Team A, Team B forever) – our employees showed up with grit, humor, creativity, and heart. To every single team member, past and present: THANK YOU. You shaped this place. You made it joyful, diverse, electric, and deeply human. Mek’s is what it is because of YOU,” the post said.

Mekelburg’s to Celebrate its Last Day on January 1

The establishment thanked its guests who visited the place over the past 10 years, and for choosing and supporting it.

“And to our guests: thank you for choosing us, supporting us, celebrating with us, and letting us be part of your lives for a full decade,” the message said.

While the last day of service for the grocery and restaurant is January 1, Mekelburg’s has urged its followers and loyal customers to visit it one last time and celebrate New Year’s with them.

“Our last day/night of service is January 1. So come see us. Come give us hugs and kisses. Let us feed you one last time. Come grab a babka. Order the hot chicken. Get one more round of wings. Thank you for ten incredible years,” the post ended.

As Mekelburg’s made a special place in Williamsburg’s dining scene, it leaves a decade-long chapter filled with memorable meals, loyal regulars, and neighborhood connections.
