Founded in 1974 by two brothers, Patel Brothers has grown over the years to become the largest Indian grocery brand in the U.S.

“At Patel Brothers, our mission is to bring the best ingredients from South Asia, right to your doorstep,” says the brand’s website. “With a wide variety of authentic regional grocery and spice products, we strive to reconnect people with the familiar flavors of India.”

With one location already open in Jacksonville, at 9551 Baymeadows Rd, Suites 12-17, Patel Brothers is now preparing to expand its footprint in the area with a new location opening in St. Johns County, in the Shops at Racetrack Road, a retail center still under development.

According to coverage by the Jacksonville Daily Record, Patel Brothers has purchased 4.25 acres with plans for a 20,000 square foot store.

“This will be a very modern-looking store, with the new design we’ve launched in the last four to five years,” Swetal Patel, who heads up day-to-day operations at Patel Brothers, told What Now on Wednesday.

That means it will also include Patel’s Fresh Kitchen, a bakery serving up breads, samosa, pizzas, and more. Patel said this location will serve as kind of hub, with additional concepts opening inside, including another restaurant, a jewelry store, and a beauty store.

“This has been something the community has been wanting and asking for, so it was great that this location came open,” Patel said. “We’re looking forward to expanding our footprint in the Florida market.”

Indeed, Patel says Patel Brothers currently has three locations in the works in Florida, but that future locations cannot yet be revealed. Construction is expected to start on the new Patel Brothers this month.
