What Now reported in April 2024 on plans for international donut brand Lukumades to make its U.S. debut in Jacksonville Beach. Having launched successfully, the Greek-based donut chain—or, more properly Loukoumades (Greek mini donuts) chain—is planning to open a second U.S. location, also in the Jacksonville market.

According to coverage by Jacksonville.com, Lukumades is opening at 1020 Park St. in Jacksonville’s Five Points neighborhood this spring.

“At Lukumades™, we specialise in creating hand-crafted Greek doughnuts with a modern twist,” says the Lukumades corporate website. “Whether you like your doughnuts smothered with Nutella, sprinkled with crushed Oreos or drizzled with salted caramel sauce, we have a little something for everyone!”

Lukumades’s loukoumades come in varieties like the Plain Jane (rolled in cinnamon sugar), Pistachio (pistachio spread topped with chocolate flakes), Peanut Butter (peanut butter drizzled with milk chocolate & peanuts), and Love U Matcha (Matcha infused white chocolate). There’s also a coffee menu, plus shakes, refreshers, and even gelato.

“All around the world, Greeks hold onto their family Lukumades recipe, each with its own special twist,” the website continues. “Lukumades otherwise known as ‘Greek doughnuts’ are sold all over Greece from small dedicated patisseries, quite often no bigger than a hole in the wall, and are usually served as a treat in the afternoon with honey syrup and crushed walnuts.”

“The doughnut shop is in the permitting process to open in the roughly 1,020-square-foot space,” the Jacksonville.com coverage says. “The estimated cost of converting the space to a doughnut and coffee shop is $300,000, according to Building Inspection Division records.”

What Now reached out to franchisee Leo Georgallis on Friday to ask about plans for the opening. Georgallis was not immediately available for comment.
