After winning over Memphis hearts and stomachs as a pop-up, a popular Filipino concept is preparing to launch its first brick-and-mortar location. KUYA, the passion project of Shayne Diaz, is getting ready to open in Downtown Memphis, reports Commercial Appeal.

Memphis foodies will be able to stop in and enjoy a Pan-Asian American meal at 327 South Main Street, in the former home of Bedrock Eats & Sweets. Owner Shayne Diaz perfected KUYA’s model as a pop-up that previously enjoyed periods at Good Fortune Co.

Paperwork filed with the Memphis and Shelby County Division and Planning and Development offers some sneak-peaks at what’s in store for visitors to the 1,600 square foot storefront. The project description included on the application for a certificate of occupancy describes the restaurant, saying: “KUYA will be a Filipino-inspired snack bar on the corner of South Main and Vance. We will serve specialty cocktails and small plates for people to share in a curated space. We will also focus on hi-fi music and bringing local DJs in to play for our community.”

Diaz described her vision for KUYA in a grant application for the Center City Development Corp., stating: “We believe that sharing food is the easiest way to bring people together to foster connection and build relationships. We have traveled around the world trying different cuisines and learning the culture of community through food.”

A precise opening date is not yet available for KUYA, however Diaz is eying an early 2026 debut.
