An experienced chef is bringing Asian cuisine to a new kitchen in the northwest suburb.
A new project called Basil Leaf has been teased on social media, coming to 2458 Orchard Lake Road in Sylvan Lake. The kitchen will be serving Thai cuisine, and is operating at the same address as China Express. Owner and chef Dewan Ahammed told What Now Detroit he is hoping to open the kitchen next Sunday.
Ahammed has been a chef for five years at kitchens in the area. As this will be a Thai food spot, signature dishes like Pad Thai, green curry and spicy-sour shrimp can be expected. In one of the promotional photos, egg rolls are displayed as an option that could be served.
“Our goal is to serve the community with authentic Thai cuisine,” Ahammed said. Their logo describes the concept as “Halal Asian cuisine.”
The building is at the corner of Sherwood Street, across the street from Bellacino’s Pizza & Grinders, as well as Ellen’s Bakery & Cafe. This is near what is considered to be Sylvan Lake’s downtown, which is seeing growth with new concepts opening up. What Now Detroit recently covered a new deli called Cardoon Cafe and Provisions coming close-by on Orchard Lake Road.
It is not clear what the plans are after Ahammed opens up the kitchen, but he wants to build up the brand and possibly look into expansion in the future. More information on Mr. and Mrs. Kitchen can be found on their Facebook page.
