John Brown General and Butchery Working on Second Location

The concept will be opening in Bel Air this summer.

An historic Maryland neighborhood is getting both figurative and literal fresh meat later this year. Robert Voss is bringing his concept, John Brown General and Butchery, to Bel Air, and it will begin serving customers this summer, reports Baltimore Business Journal. 

 

The butcher shop and deli will be opening at 23 South Main Street. John Brown General and Butchery will be the first new tenant the storefront has seen in quite some time; the space housed Boyd & Fulford Drugs for 127 years before it closed in 2019.

 

If that tenure seems like it leaves relatively large shoes to fill, John Brown General is up to the challenge. The concept has already made a strong impression in its current Cockeysville home, thanks to its whole-animal butcher and made-to-order lunches. 

 

The company’s website offers a more comprehensive vision of what’s in store-one certain to inspire enthusiasm in Bel Air residents: “We specialize in whole animal butchery of grass-fed, grass-finished beef, and pasture-raised pork, lamb, and poultry. We also dry-age beef in house. Our butcher staff keep the cases stocked with a rotating selection of house-made sausages, pates, breakfast and charcuterie meats alongside pantry items, local eggs and vegetables, provisions, local bread, house-made baked goods, spirits, beer, and wine.”

 

Locals won’t have to wait too much longer to sample all that John Brown General has to offer; owner Robert Voss is hoping to open by late summer.
