An Orange County Sports Bar Suggested to Close After Health Inspection

The Orange County health department conducted multiple health inspections on February 18 in the area. Among them, Lopez & Lefty’s underwent a temporary closure following observed violations during inspection.

Lopez & Lefty’s is a sports bar serving food and drinks, with live sports on TV.  According to the report, the eatery was reported for the following violations:

  • The handwashing sink in the bar area had no soap. Staff were instructed to install a soap dispenser with hand soap.
  • Several food items were measured at improper temperatures, the report said. Pozole was kept at 120°F, beans were measured at 68°F, cheese sticks at 100°F, and sliced tomatoes at 53°F. The person in charge said the first three food items had been held for less than four hours, while the fourth item had been held for more than four hours. Pozole was reheated at 165°F for 15 seconds, and the rest was discarded.
  • The blade had food residue from the can opener stored on a shelf near the three-compartment sink, which was then placed in the three-compartment sink
  • The report said rodent droppings were observed on the floor beneath food storage racks in the back kitchen area and on the floor next to soda syrup racks in the back kitchen area.
  • Pressurized cylinders were observed unfastened within the facility. All pressurized cylinders must be securely fastened to a rigid structure.

  • The report noted gaps in several areas: around hot water pipes and soda fountain lines in the back kitchen ceiling, on the wall of the front bar’s liquor cabinet room, and on the ceiling of the liquor room.
  • An accumulation of food, grime, and debris was observed on the floor beneath all cooking equipment along the cook’s line, according to the report.
  • Beans (2 cups), cheese sticks (half lb), and sliced tomatoes were voluntarily condemned and destroyed.

According to the report, Lopez & Lefty’s underwent a health permit suspension during the inspection. The restaurant is expected to correct all violations. It can request a reinspection once corrections are made.

Approved methods must be used to eliminate rodent activity, and all affected surfaces must be cleaned and sanitized, the report noted.
