A new cafe space with relaxing drinks is on the way to Auburn Hills.
From a recent social media post, Detroit Kava Bar is coming to 2600 N Squirrel Road this spring. The new shop will serve teas mixed with kava plants, and is designed to be a space to study and decompress. No opening date has been set, but a staff member told What Now Detroit the team is hoping to open sometime in early March.
Kava bars have become popular in the last couple years, serving drinks infused with the plant. It is known to make people more relaxed and help their nervous systems. The new Auburn Hills location will mostly serve tea.
“Not a club. Not a coffee shop. Not a regular bar,” says a recent post from the business..
The new space is joining the plaza at the northeast corner of N Squirrel Road and Walton Boulevard. Here, restaurants include Olga’s Kitchen, CoolYo frozen yogurt shop, Tokyo Sushi and Sarah’s Coffee. This is close to Oakland University’s main campus.
Detroit Kava Bar is not the only concept from owner Jawan Simpson, as he and his team own other kava locations in Jacksonville, Florida. This is their first time stepping into the Detroit market. When What Now Detroit reached out to Simpson, he was not available for comment.
Right now, the owners are hiring for positions including “kavatenders” and barbacks. More information on the official opening date will be released in the coming days.
