Florida-based Nigel’s Bananas is venturing out of its home state and planning its first Nashville location. Mother-daughter team Renae Currey and Lauren Dennis are bringing the concept to Hillsboro Village at 1818 21st Ave. S.

A Nashville native, Currey now lives in Florida. When franchising opportunities with Nigel’s emerged, she partnered with her daughter, who still lives in Nashville, to bring the brand to the city.

“When they started franchising their locations, I thought Nashville would be a perfect spot for it,” Currey told What Now Nashville.

Dennis will be managing the day-to-day operations. They are targeting a May 1 opening in their 1,000-square-foot space at Hillsboro Village. It will offer a bright, clean atmosphere with indoor seating.

“It’s a fun, bright, exciting brand,” Currey said. “The menu items are really good and I know everyone will be obsessed and want to try all the different toppings.”

The menu offers frozen chocolate-dipped desserts, including bananas, cheesecakes, key lime pie and ice cream bars, with toppings added. They will also offer boozy floats — ice cream floats with hard cider. The spot offers both vegan and gluten-free options.

After this initial location, Currey and Dennis hope to continue to expand to other neighborhoods.

Right now, Nigel’s has two locations with a couple more on the way to Florida.
