A new dim sum restaurant, MuDan Asian Cuisine, is coming to Baton Rouge, according to a liquor license application filed with the city. MuDan is aiming to open its doors between May and June 2026.

MuDan is opening in a freestanding restaurant space on 9460 Perkins Rd, the former home of Southern Pearl Oyster House, which closed in January 2026. Operated by the owners behind Half Shell Oyster House, the restaurant had been operating there since 2019.

Owned by Shi Jian Zheng and Stacy Chen, MuDan will serve dim sum and Chinese seafood dishes. The co-owners own a handful of restaurants in Baton Rouge, including Daruma Ramen in Praireville, King Buffet in southeast Baton Rouge and the Yummy House in Kenner. Most recently the pair announced an upcoming conveyor belt sushi restaurant called Zuma Revolving Sushi Bar.

“We’re bringing the finest Dim Sum experience to Baton Rouge,” Chen wrote to What Now. “And we can’t wait to share a variety of delicious dishes with the community.”
