Longtime East Village entrepreneur Abby Ehmann is hoping to expand her footprint in the neighborhood with a new concept called B Scene. Planned for the former Housewatch space at 50 Avenue B, the venue is envisioned as a two-level bar and live music hub, with live music and a bar in the basement, and a bar on the ground floor. Unlike her recent venture Hekate, which focused on “sober-curious” tipples, B Scene has applied for a full liquor license to complement a program of live bands, DJs, and recorded music. There will be a limited bar food menu.
However, the road to opening has met some local resistance. Ehmann told What Now New York via email that she has yet to sign a formal lease for the space. That agreement is contingent upon receiving approval for a liquor license by the Manhattan Community Board 3, which is set to take up the application at its April 13 meeting. To address concerns from building tenants, Ehmann said she is holding a “meet your neighbors” event on April 11. The meeting aims to gain community support for a responsible, live music addition to the neighborhood.
