The tempting smell of freshly prepared food will soon be returning to a Memphis storefront, following a period of dormancy. A new American Deli location is headed to a former Wendy’s, and paperwork suggests the eatery will be customer-ready in the not-too-distant future.
American Deli will be moving into a 2,678 square foot space located at 2221 Frayser Boulevard. The concept has a sign permit application under review with the Memphis and Shelby County Division of Planning and Development as of March 31 of this year.
A certificate of occupancy previously submitted for the deli stated that it will have an occupant load of 25, while a commercial alteration permit issued last April described the scope of work owner Dae Shin planned for the concept as: “I would like to remodel Wendy’s store to new restaurant. I have a plan to change door and remake the countertop where the countertop is located. Also, I need to change the hood because all equipment are too old. Tile and paint inside of the store as well.”
American Deli does not yet have a definitive opening date, however the sign permit application is a positive sign that progress is moving forward and the restaurant will be customer ready in the relatively near future.
American Deli has been serving satisfied customers since its founding in Atlanta in 1989. The concept made itself irreplaceable on the dining scene through its lemon pepper wet wings-a dish created by the brand. The chain-and its expansive menu, featuring subs, salads, gyros, burgers, and chicken sandwiches-has spread to more than 200 locations, concentrated primarily through the Southern part of the country.
