Ice cream is making a triumphant return to a Crosstown Concourse storefront. Locals who were heartbroken by Sweet Magnolia Gelato Co.’s closure in the shopping center have reason to rejoice; a new concept called The Scoop is opening in its place, and it’s helmed by a Memphis ice cream superstar, reports Memphis Business Journal.
The Scoop-an evolution of Kaye’s Pints & Scoops-will be setting up its freezers at 1350 Concourse Avenue, #168. Owner Kiamesha Wilson intends to reinvigorate the space through personal touches like the inclusion of orange and hot pink.
While Kaye’s Pints & Scoops has already established itself as a beloved and delicious presence through its small-batch, hand-churned ice creams, The Scoop will be the brand’s first foray into scoop shops. Visitors will be able to enjoy a wide range of delectable treats, including milkshakes, freshly prepared waffle cones, and various specialty items on a rotating basis.
Wilson plans to hold The Scoop’s grand opening on May 16. She has big and exciting plans for the concept’s future-and how it will fit into the fabric of its community. Guests can look forward to monthly events, Memphis themed ice cream cakes, and collaborations with other area businesses.
Future regulars can anticipate plenty of variety from The Scoop’s ice creams, made free of artificial flavors or dyes, but full of imagination. Wilson states: “When I am developing flavors, I want you to think about the last time you had that meal. We don’t use any artificial colors, so you won’t find a lot of bright blue or oranges. You won’t get all of that with ours, but it will taste delicious.”
Locals have the opportunity to contribute to the success of this exciting new venture; Wilson has launched a crowdfunding campaign to defray the costs of opening The Scoop.
