After a 26-year run on Congress Avenue, the Hideout Coffee House and Theatre held its final performance on March 21.

Coverage of the bar’s closing published by Fox7Austin last month indicated that the space would be replaced by a new bar, but did not provide any details on what this new bar might have in store for the area.

As it happens, however, the Austin Business Journal had already reported back in December on plans for the new bar, The Archive, which is to open in the former Hideout Coffee House and Theatre space at 617 Congress Ave.

“The new bar will also serve as a coffee shop,” the coverage said, “bringing in daytime and evening traffic.”

This week, What Now came across submitted liquor licensing documents showing that The Archive project is moving forward.

What Now contacted The Archive’s owner, Eric Atkerson, on Monday to ask about plans for the new coffee shop and bar. Atkerson said the details couldn’t be revealed just yet, but stay tuned for an update later this week!
