Abbott’s Frozen Custard is opening in Coconut Creek, bringing a New York State classic dessert to South Florid for the first time.
SHYLINC I LLC just filed permit applications with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Revenue to open an Abbott’s Frozen Custard at 6567 North State Road 7 in Coconut Creek. The shop is expected to open by the beginning of June — just in time for families to cool off after a long summer’s day.
For more than a century, Abbott’s has been serving fresh frozen custard using a secret family recipe. The main ingredient is fresh dairy from upstate New York and eggs. The custard is churned with less air mixed in and served at a slightly higher temperature than other frozen ice cream desserts, giving Abbott’s a distinct, creamy texture.
The company was founded in 1902 by Arthur Abbott, who sold frozen custard at traveling carnivals. In 1926, Abbott set up shop at a small custard stand in Rochester, New York after spending years perfecting his recipe. The frozen custard business proved successful for Abbott, and he finally sold the business to the Schreiber family in 1957.
Arthur Abbott founded Abbott’s Frozen Custard in 1902. He originally perfected his secret recipe while traveling with carnivals along the Eastern Seaboard before establishing a permanent stand in 1926 in Rochester, New York, near Ontario Beach Park. The business was later taken over by the Schreiber family in 1957 with the family still running the business. Today, there are more than three dozen locations throughout the U.S.
