Madi Rum, a rum brand that invites you to “unleash your tropical spirit,” is at work on something big in St. Johns. According to coverage published by St. Johns Citizen, paperwork has been submitted for a 6-acre Madi Rum distillery and restaurant.

The project would be called Deerpark Garden, a “destination-style distillery complex,” the coverage says. “Plans call for an approximately 43,000-square-foot destination-style complex with a distillery, tasting room, retail space, restaurant, bakery, greenhouses and outdoor nature areas.”

Behind the project Travis and Shane Sheltra, who also own St. Augustine’s Prohibition Kitchen.

Deerpark Garden would “serve as both a production facility and a destination experience,” the paperwork says. “This development will create local jobs, attract tourism, and contribute to the County’s economic diversification goals.”

“The VANILLA explosion in every bottle comes from the infusion of Madagascar’s juiciest Vanilla beans!” says the Madi Rum website. “Each sip supports the local Malagasy farmers and the island’s endangered wildlife! So pop the cork for a good cause that leaves your taste buds tingling!”

Soon, St. Johns may be getting to know this tropical spirit a lot better!
