Legacy Smokehouse in Hilliard Set to Shut Down

The community favorite, Legacy Smokehouse, has been a go-to BBQ destination for almost a decade. It serves wood-fired Central Texas-style BBQ and craft cocktails. The menu includes smoked meats, sandwiches, and haystacks.

The team behind the Legacy Smokehouse shared an emotional message with the closure announcement. They said, “We are sharing the unfortunate news that we have decided to shut down Legacy in Hilliard at the end of this month.”

Reflecting on the journey of the restaurant, they wrote, “Before the patio, before the rooftop bar, before the full restaurant rhythm, there was the trailer, the smoker, the tent, the folding tables, and a whole lot of hope.” The team also added that the early days of the restaurant were “scrappy, exhausting, and honestly pretty special.”

The team did not share any official reason for its sudden closure. But the closure message continued, “As we prepare to close the restaurant at the end of this month, we’re feeling a lot of emotions: sadness, gratitude, pride, and hope for what might come next.”

Story of the Smokehouse

Three friends, Chad Smock, Brian Jordan, and Ty Sells, founded the Legacy Smokehouse in 2017. They aimed to bring the traditional Central Texas-style BBQ to Ohio.

The restaurant began as a small food trailer in Columbus and steadily grew into a popular smokehouse. Legacy built its reputation with slow-smoked briskets, ribs, turkey, and more.

The business suffered a serious fire in late 2021, according to the 614Now report. “The eatery’s brick-and-mortar space closed until May of 2023,” stated the report.

In the closure announcement post, the team thanked the community and invited them to stop in before its final day. “There’s still time to come see us before we close this chapter. We’d love to share one more meal with you,” said the team.

With the closure of the Legacy Smokehouse, the Hilliard community will lose a notable spot from its dining scene.
