Downtown Oakland is set to welcome a new neighborhood pub. Five and Dime is expected to open this summer, at 329 14th Street, according to The San Francisco Business Times. Offering great drinks in a lively gathering spot for sports fans, the bar also welcomes community members who want to meet friends and enjoy good food and cocktails. The concept will move into the former home of Dinner House.

Launched by chef Michelle Macqueen and bar owner Matt Sturm, Five and Dime aims to bring elevated cocktails and soulful comfort food to Downtown Oakland, a pairing that has become a mark of the owners’ businesses.

Known for creating warm, community-driven spaces with inventive menus, Macqueen and Sturm have built a reputation for blending classic Southern flavors with contemporary culinary influences, a blend that may be present at Five and Dime. Their most recent concept, Lucy Blue, debuted in Oakland in 2025 and quickly became a local favorite for its creative take on comfort food and an approachable dining atmosphere.

The restaurant attracted diners with dishes such as its warm, cheesy collard dip and flaky cheddar-chive biscuits, while also incorporating more Asian flavors through menu items like catfish bao buns and oxtail arancini. Drawing inspiration from Asian and Caribbean cuisines, the menu reflects the team’s broader vision of reimagining soul food through a modern, multicultural lens.
