Oakland restaurant and cocktail bar Gold Palm is set to close. The restaurant and cocktail bar will serve its last dinner on Wednesday, May 27. Due to economic struggles, the restaurant is closing; however, the cocktail bar will remain open.

Gold Palm Announces Closure Amid Ongoing Financial Challenges

Located at 1900 Telegraph Avenue in Oakland, California, Gold Palm is a community favorite destination for craft cocktails and pub fare. The eatery was founded in 2024 and quickly gained attention with its tropical and artistic aesthetic vibe.

In an Instagram post, the restaurant team penned down a heartbreaking closure message. The team said, “Our last day of regular service at Gold Palm will be on May 27th, timed perfectly to the so-good-you-can’t-make-it-up The Last Dinner Party show at The Fox.”

The team said they opened the restaurant for two reasons. “First, to revive this historic space in Uptown (and put an end to another vacancy on the block). Second, because we fell in love with the possibilities of the little bar tucked in the back of the main room,” they mentioned.

The team highlighted that the business has been doing well, but not well enough to sustain operations.

“We dusted 8.8 million French fries with 48 pounds of masala spice. We created the best ranch in town (challenge extended). We even revolutionized the global culinary landscape with the invention of the “burger.” But at the end of the day, the math is just not mathing, as they say… (Do they say that?), stated the team.

Moonglow to Stay Open and Welcome Guests

Even though the Gold Palm restaurant is closing, Moonglow, the cocktail bar, will continue its services. “Moonglow will still be open, operating in the early evening as a cozy cocktail den with a selection of small bites (including masala fries!) and carrying on as a home for underground electronic music on the later side,” assured the team.

Additionally, the restaurant space will be available to host events and parties. They added, “We will continue to keep the space available for private parties, happy hour bookings, special events, and community gatherings, and (hopefully) open for select special events happening in the neighborhood. Hit us up to book something.”

With the closure of Gold Palm restaurant, the Oakland dining scene will lose a neighborhood restaurant and cocktail bar.
