Less than a year after making its Memphis-area debut, a hungry young Mexican concept is preparing to launch a new location. Taco Prime has already made a big impact in Bartlett and now it’s bringing its authentic cuisine to a fresh Poplar Avenue home.

While ownership only announced its upcoming 5201 Poplar Avenue home on social media two days ago, signage is already up, stirring anticipation (and hunger) in locals. The building previously housed a Starbucks and-most recently-Abner’s Famous Chicken. While the space will doubtless require renovations, the fact that its last incarnation was an eatery suggests the turnover might be a bit quicker.

An opening timeline has not yet been revealed for Taco Prime’s Poplar Avenue home; the May 22 Facebook announcement said that the location was “coming soon”, adding “Thank you for riding with us from day one. More tacos, more flavor, more Prime. Stay tuned.”

Taco Prime opened its Bartlett storefront in September of last year. Owned and operated by spouses Ingrid and Sergio Vilchis, the concept strives to bring delicious and comforting cuisine to its customers. The website states Taco Prime’s hopes and intentions, saying: “We are excited to celebrate our incredible journey with you! It’s been an incredible experience turning cherished family recipes into a beloved dining experience. If our dishes don’t remind you of home, then you just haven’t tried enough yet!”
