A new taqueria called VIVA will debut in Summerhill this year at 39 Georgia Ave. SE, taking over the former BOCA space. Owner Agustin Leon told What Now Atlanta that they are currently awaiting alcohol licensing and are aiming to open in the 1,800-square-foot space this summer.
Leon’s family is behind VIVA Mexico, a Mexican and Tex-Mex restaurant with locations in Marietta, Canton and Buford. VIVA in Summerhill is designed to offer a smaller, more streamlined menu — hence the shortened name, VIVA — while still bringing the “full flavor” experience to customers, Leon said.
“This is a new little concept we have going on,” Leon said. “If we are able to work out details the way we want to, we would really like to start branching out and keep growing this smaller restaurant [format] and be part of the Atlanta area.”
The space in Summerhill will feature vintage touches with a modern twist, with elements remaining from BOCA’s time in the space.
“We plan to change a few things down the road, but we’re eager to get it up and running right now,” Leon said.
When VIVA opens, the hours of operation will be from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, according to alcohol licensing paperwork.
“We want to welcome the community of Summerhill to VIVA and hopefully we are able to meet or exceed their expectations on the food and atmosphere,” Leon said.
