When Adalys Sutherland and her husband moved to Atlanta last year from Washington, D.C., they realized a need for a walkable convenience store in their area.

“We didn’t have any place we could walk to to just grab snacks,” Sutherland told What Now Atlanta. “As two very big homebodies, we felt that could really benefit ourselves and the community around us. So we figured, why not us?”

Now, the couple is opening their own convenience store, Pick & Choose. It will open this summer in The Skylark at 1099 Boulevard SE, Unit 3125. Sutherland said they are hoping to host a grand opening in July.

The 660-square-foot store will feature a retro design, a nod to their love for video and board games. Offerings will include grab-and-go items such as snacks, candy, sodas and energy drinks. There will also be some grocery items as well as some games, including a blind box vendor, claw machines and arcade cabinets.

Eventually, Sutherland hopes to introduce a weekly board game club at the store to cultivate community.

“We want to build the community, continue to be authentically us and have fun with it,” Sutherland said.
