Craving hometown comfort food? A new West Columbia eatery is preparing to open its doors, bringing a lineup of classic favorites together under one roof.

Key Deli & Ice Cream Shop, a new venture from owner Kechia Bass, will debut at 1505 Charleston Hwy., Suite E, in the Granby Village Shopping Center.

Bass, who also owns Key Insurance and Tax Services in the same plaza, told What Now Charleston she wanted to expand the center’s dining options while bringing back the spirit of Sandy’s Famous Hot Dogs, a former eatery in the shopping center, with her own added “razzle dazzle.”

“Me being from Georgia, I wanted to put a little finesse on it. So, Key Deli, even though it says deli, once you walk in, the vibe is more like a bistro. It’s a comfortable-type feel,” she said.

The interior will feature a warm palette of khaki beige, complemented by dark wood finishes and sage green accents. Designed to feel inviting and comfortable, the space will encourage guests to linger, whether they’re catching up with friends or settling in to work remotely.

“It’s going to be a vibe. It’s a family-oriented place. My daughter is the manager, my grandson will work here, and a lot of people from the community will work here as well,” Bass said.

The menu offers signature loaded hot dogs in classic, mustard and chili, chili cheese and fully loaded varieties. Guests can also enjoy customizable deli sandwiches, pulled pork sandwiches, grilled or pulled chicken sandwiches, ribeye Philly cheesesteaks, nachos, soups and sausages.

The menu will be rounded out with homemade desserts, ice cream and a curated coffee program.

Bass looks forward to expanding her presence in the shopping center.

“I want to make it a staple. I really hope to make the community proud—that’s my biggest thing. It’s more about the people, to give them some more options and a place to enjoy themselves,” she said.

Key Deli & Ice Cream Shop will celebrate its grand opening on July 1. The shop will operate Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
