Kafe Leopold is preparing to permanently close its doors after more than two decades of business. The Austrian bistro will serve its final customers on June 21. The final operation date coincides with Father’s Day celebrations.

Kafe Leopold to Close Its Doors This Weekend

Kafe Leopold is well-known for its European atmosphere and open courtyard space. The local gem serves traditional Austrian dishes and pastries. The restaurant and bar, founded in 2005, is located in Georgetown’s Cady’s Alley.

The team behind the restaurant shared an announcement of its closure on its official website. In the announcement, the owner wrote, “To be 21 has always been a dream for those who fall short of that magical benchmark and also for those who have gone long past it.”

The owner also reflected on the restaurant’s journey and mentioned, “Having been a part of Georgetown for the past 21 years, Kafe Leopold has been absolutely the most rewarding experience for us.”

“Befitting of that magical number, 21, we will bid our final farewells this June 21, 2026 (Father’s Day),” said the owner.

Owners Reflect on Next Chapter

In the official announcement post, the owner hinted at a decision of voluntary retirement. They said, “As we have now arrived at that turning point, we believe we accomplished what we had always imagined and are ready to hang up our aprons to embark on the next life journey.”

The owner also mentioned that they want to “begin that next sought-after chapter to smell the elderflowers, listen to the light breeze speak through the mountain trees, and watch the optimists telepathically try to convince the river trout that the bait at the end of the hook is what they want.”

As the final dinner of the restaurant approaches, Kafe Leopold is wrapping up its final chapter in the Georgetown neighborhood.
