Whataburger is expected to open a new restaurant at 13721 Mallard Creek Road in Charlotte in late July, according to reporting by The Charlotte Observer. The location will add to the chain’s growing Charlotte-area footprint as it continues expanding across the Carolinas.
The publication reports that Whataburger opened its first Charlotte-area restaurant in Gastonia in May 2025. Since then, the company has expanded with additional locations in Charlotte, Indian Land, Hickory, and Mooresville.
The publication also recently reported that Whataburger’s newest restaurant, located at 2265 Cross Pointe Drive in Rock Hill, South Carolina, is scheduled to open on July 9 after experiencing delays from its original timeline. According to The Charlotte Observer, a Whataburger spokesperson said additional locations are in the works across the Carolinas, including a second Raleigh restaurant expected to open this fall.
Founded by Harmon Dobson in Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1950, Whataburger has grown to more than 1,100 locations nationwide, according to the company’s website. The chain is known for its made-to-order burgers, including its signature Whataburger, as well as chicken sandwiches, breakfast taquitos, biscuit sandwiches, salads, shakes, and desserts. The company says its goal has remained the same since its founding: serving a burger so large customers would exclaim, “What a burger!” after the first bite.
WhatNow Charlotte reached out to Whataburger but did not receive a response at the time of publication. WhatNow Charlotte will provide updates on the future Raleigh location as more details become available.
