Gold Spike hotel and bar has recently been acquired by Las Vegas husband-and-wife real estate investors Huan “Jeff” Mai and Qing Zhong, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The real estate dynamic couple bought the hotel and nightlife property located in Downtown Las Vegas at 217 Las Vegas Blvd N for $11.38 million, Clark County property records show.

Mai and Zhong recently purchased the Macy’s on Spring Mountain Road in Chinatown. What Now Las Vegas reached out to the two to find out more details about both exciting new purchases. But, unfortunately, What Now did not hear back by the time of this publication.

“Gold Spike is a one-of-a-kind bar and nightlife venue,” the Gold Spike website reads.

“Featuring oversized interactive games, special events, and great music. Formerly a hotel and casino, the historic Gold Spike has been re-imagined as Downtown Las Vegas’ premier adult playground.”

Gold Spike, located at Las Vegas Boulevard and Ogden Avenue in downtown Las Vegas, has evolved from a budget-friendly 1970s casino into a cultural hub. It features a grandfathered non-restricted Nevada gaming license and currently operates as a nightlife venue and adult playground.

In 2013, the late Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh’s Downtown Project purchased the property. Hsieh transformed the venue into a trendy “adult playground” and co-working lounge, permanently removing the casino floor but preserving the gaming license. Hsieh, who died in 2020, acquired the Gold Spike bar and hotel for nearly $27 million.

The sale, by the Hsieh’s estate, closed June 10.

We don’t expect any huge changes at the venue or closures. But keep your eyes open, and your ears perked for the latest on this development.
