Sadie’s on Main, a new boutique shop from mother-daughter duo Corrie Crandall and Cora Crandall-Schleicher, is set to open this summer at 10909 SE Main Street in downtown Milwaukie. Owner Cora confirmed to What Now Portland that they are planning an August opening, giving the pair time to settle into a space that already feels like a big project.
The concept is as personal as it gets. Corrie, now in her 70s and recently retired, spent decades traveling the world and collecting furniture, art, jewelry, knick-knacks, and objects with stories attached to every one of them. When she moved from Southern California to Oregon about six months ago, settling just down the street from her daughter in Southeast Portland, she brought a storage unit’s worth of a lifetime’s worth of treasures with her.
As for the name, neither Cora nor Corrie is named Sadie. The shop is an homage to a store Corrie visited while living in Los Angeles in the 1970s that, even then, struck a chord deep enough to never forget.
The inventory at Sadie’s will blend worldly antiques with modern gifts, leaning eclectic and elevated rather than the dusty Raggedy Ann doll variety. The shop will also work with a handful of select consignors, mostly women around Corrie’s age who are ready to part with their own carefully curated collections.
This shop will be one of several new businesses taking over the former Perry’s Pharmacy Building, according to The Oregonian, This is a historic building that housed the beloved Main Street Collectors Mall and Soda Fountain for years before it closed.
