Mizu Sushi & Sake Lounge is preparing to open its doors in downtown Cincinnati later this year, bringing handcrafted Japanese cuisine and generations of culinary tradition to the former Lalo Chino Latino Kitchen space at 26 W. Court St.

Owned by husband-and-wife duo Tracy and Kevin, the new concept is rooted in family heritage and a shared passion for creating memorable dining experiences.

“For us, this restaurant is more than just a place to serve sushi; it is a way to share our family heritage, our passion for food, and the connection that great meals can create between people,” Tracy told WhatNow in an email.

Kevin, who will serve as Mizu Sushi’s sushi chef, comes from a family with Chinese-Japanese roots and a long history in the culinary industry. According to Tracy, his grandparents’ generation shared a Chinese-Japanese heritage, while his father also worked as a chef. Kevin began his professional culinary career at the age of 20 and has spent more than a decade refining his craft.

The couple’s journey to Cincinnati began when Kevin visited the city several years ago. After experiencing its culture and community, they decided to relocate and build their next chapter here.

“After learning more about the city, its culture, and its community, he quickly fell in love with the area,” Tracy said. “We were inspired by the warmth of the people and the unique character of Cincinnati, and we eventually made the decision to move here and start this new chapter together.”

Through Mizu Sushi & Sake Lounge, the couple hopes to introduce thoughtfully prepared Japanese cuisine while sharing Kevin’s culinary experience and family traditions with the local community.

“Through Mizu Sushi, we hope to bring carefully crafted Japanese cuisine to downtown Cincinnati while sharing Kevin’s culinary experience, family traditions, and our appreciation for this wonderful city we now call home,” Tracy said.

Mizu Sushi & Sake Lounge will occupy the former Lalo Chino Latino Kitchen space, which closed earlier this year after a decade in business. The restaurant is currently targeting a late 2026 opening, with additional details expected to be announced as construction progresses.
