Charlotte shoppers will soon experience a shakeup in their home shopping scene, as The Container Store at 4345 Barclay Downs Drive begins its transition into a co-branded shop with retailer Bed Bath & Beyond. A recent press release from the latter announced the location has been targeted as part of its initial phasing in of these stores.
Twenty-two markets have been chosen for Phase One of the nationwide rollout of the new retail format, where the two brands are housed under one roof. Also participating in the launch are markets like Nashville, Austin, Bellevue, Miami, Chicago, Atlanta, and Salt Lake City.
It’s part of an effort to make errands easier for consumers, offering more products in one central place, backed by two trusted names in the industry. The changes also mark what Biz Journal calls a “comeback”, following a few financially tumultuous years.
A Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2023 led to the closure of all of its locations and the disappearance of a shopping center staple from the market. Overstock.com later acquired the retailer for $21.5 million and has been focused on a plan to revive the household retail giant, with co-branded concepts as one avenue.
In total, 98 units of Bed Bath & Beyond + The Container Store format are currently planned.
But Bed Bath & Beyond estimates there could be a market potential for up to 300 total units of its brand name across the U.S., tapping into Bed Bath & Beyond neighborhood stores, Bed Bath & Beyond Seasonal Living concepts, and Buybuy Baby locations.
Locations will be stocked with a mix of home essentials, bedding, and bath products, as well as organizational items and storage systems. In addition to the inventory at Bed Bath & Beyond + The Container Store, household services will be offered through the Beyond Home Services sector. Customers can receive help with tasks involving cabinetry, flooring, installation, and other home improvement projects.
