California BBQ brand will open its first restaurant in the Lone Star State. Ono Hawaiian BBQ will open its first Plano location on July 24 at 8724 Preston Road. The brand will bring its Hawaiian-themed plate lunch offerings to North Texas, with further expansion plans in the Dallas-Fort Worth region.
Ono Hawaiian BBQ to Make Texas Debut in Plano
Ono Hawaiian BBQ was established in 2002 and has over 130 restaurants in California and Arizona, all of which are family-owned.
Ono Hawaiian BBQ is the company’s first new restaurant outside of California and Arizona. In a modern atmosphere with a convenient drive-thru option, the Plano restaurant will offer the brand’s signature made-to-order plate lunches.
As part of the grand opening celebration, the restaurant will offer a buy-one-get-one-free promotion on July 24. Customers can also get special prizes and tokens such as two tickets to Cirque du Soleil’s ʻAuana and a stay at the OUTRIGGER Waikīkī Beachcomber Hotel.
Island Flavors on the Menu

The restaurant specializes in Hawaiian-style plate lunches and island-inspired dishes. Signature dishes at Ono Hawaiian BBQ include BBQ Chicken, BBQ Beef, Kalbi Short Ribs, Island Fire Chicken, Chicken Katsu, and garden salad with macaroni.
Guests can also try Spam Musubi, an island-style snack. The menu includes proteins marinated in-house and grilled to order, along with traditional Hawaiian-inspired sides.
According to PR Newswire, Joshua Liang, Co-Founder and CEO at Ono Hawaiian BBQ, said, “Our goal has always been to share the flavors and aloha spirit through fresh, quality food and genuine hospitality. We look forward to becoming part of the Dallas community and welcoming guests to experience what has made Ono Hawaiian BBQ a favorite for more than two decades.”
Other Locations Planned in Dallas-Fort Worth Region
The Plano restaurant is only the first step in Ono Hawaiian BBQ’s Texas expansion. The company previously announced plans for 10 restaurants in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The restaurants are planned in McKinney, Rowlett, Carrollton, Dallas, Royse City, Hurst, Wylie, Haltom City, and Burleson.
The planned locations will expand Ono Hawaiian BBQ’s presence in the Dallas-Fort Worth market. The company said its expansion strategy focuses on bringing its Hawaiian-inspired menu to additional communities.
The Plano location will serve as the initial phase of the brand’s Dallas-Fort Worth expansion. The chain’s Hawaiian theme and drive-thru services place it firmly on the growth path to continue expanding in one of the nation’s fastest-growing restaurant markets.
