Vineland Pointe, the retail center at Regency Village Drive and Daryl Carter Parkway in Orlando, will add Barnes & Noble to its retail roster next month. According to the Barnes & Noble website, the new store will open at 11619 Regency Village Drive on August 26.

Barnes & Noble is a household-name bookseller, known for its hundreds of retail locations all across the country.

“Barnes & Noble, Inc. is the largest retail bookseller in the United States,” says the bookseller’s website. “The Company has approximately 700 bookstores across the United States, as well as its online bookstore at BN.com, the NOOK® Digital business which offers both eBooks and an audio book subscriptions service, the SparkNotes educational service, and stationery and gift retailer Paper Source.”

Opening at Vineland Pointe, Barnes & Noble will join retailers like Bath & Body Works, Cavender’s Boot City, Burlington, and ALDI, alongside a restaurant roster that includes concepts like Kura Revolving Sushi Bar, CAVA, and Chipotle Mexican Grill.

In addition to being America’s largest retail bookseller, Barnes & Noble is also a big part of U.S. bookselling history.

“Barnes & Noble’s beginnings can be traced to 1873, when Charles M. Barnes started a book business from his home in Wheaton, Illinois,” says the History page on the Barnes & Noble website. “In 1917, his son, William, went to New York to join G. Clifford Noble in establishing Barnes & Noble. During the height of the Great Depression, what later became the Barnes & Noble flagship store was opened on Fifth Avenue at 18th Street in New York City. This store developed a worldwide reputation for excellence by serving millions of customers with its comprehensive selection of general trade books, academic titles and textbooks, and medical books.

“In 1971, bookseller Leonard Riggio acquired the Barnes & Noble trade name and flagship bookstore in Manhattan, merging it with his own thriving bookselling business. Within a few years, he had grown the Barnes & Noble Fifth Avenue store in New York City into ‘The World’s Largest Bookstore,’ with 150,000 textbook and trade titles.”

Now, this descendent of “The World’s Largest Bookstore” will be opening at Vineland Pointe next month!
