Salt & Straw is planning a new location at The Switchyard, a mixed-use development under construction at the northeast corner of Ellsworth Loop Road and Ocotillo Road in Queen Creek, according to an announcement shared by Arizona Realtor Jessie Vukobratovich on Instagram.
The new shop will join a growing lineup of tenants at the approximately $120 million development, including Postino, Shake Shack, Snooze and Bamboo Sushi. An opening date for Salt & Straw has not yet been announced.
Founded in Portland, Oregon, in 2011 by cousins Kim and Tyler Malek, Salt & Straw began as a single ice cream cart inspired by the idea of creating a neighborhood gathering place. Since then, Salt & Straw has expanded across several states. The company continues to focus on seasonal flavors, collaborations with local artisans and story-driven menus.
Alongside year-round favorites such as Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons, Double Fold Vanilla and Salted Malted Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, the company is known for rotating monthly menus featuring limited-time flavors inspired by regional ingredients, chefs and community partners.
The Queen Creek location will become Salt & Straw’s fourth shop in Arizona, joining existing scoop shops in Gilbert, Tempe and Phoenix. Beyond Arizona, the company operates scoop shops across the West Coast, Texas, Florida, New York and New England, including locations at Downtown Disney District and Disney Springs.
Additional details about the Queen Creek location, including an opening timeline, have not yet been announced. What Now Phoenix reached out to Salt & Straw, and this article could be updated as more information becomes available.
