One of New England’s premier destinations for tabletop gaming is getting ready for its biggest expansion yet.

Battleground Games & Hobbies recently announced plans to open its fifth Massachusetts location at the Weymouth Shopping Center, located at 122 Main Street. Slated to debut in September 2026, the new store will be twice the size of the company’s existing locations, giving hobbyists even more room to shop, play, and connect.

Founded by Derek Lloyd in 2002, Battleground Games & Hobbies has grown from a single local game shop into a regional destination for board games, collectible card games, miniature wargames, role-playing games, and hobby supplies. The retailer currently operates stores in Abington, Norton, Saugus, and Framingham, with each location offering an extensive selection of games and accessories alongside its online store.

Beyond its retail offerings, Battleground is designed as a gathering place for the tabletop community. Spacious gaming tables are available for customers to use during regular business hours, while hobbyists can also take advantage of an impressive collection of miniature terrain for tabletop wargaming.

The company also hosts a packed calendar of weekly and special events across its Massachusetts stores, including Friday Night Magic, casual board game meetups, role-playing sessions, and miniature gaming tournaments.

Ahead of the Weymouth opening, Battleground Games & Hobbies is hiring for several positions, including sales associates specializing in different product areas and an overnight stock clerk. Interested applicants can email their resume and a brief introduction to [email protected], along with the position they’re applying for in the subject line.

While the new Weymouth store will be the company’s largest to date, Battleground says its greatest accomplishment has always been the community it has built over the past two decades. “Friendships, laughs and good times are the commodities we deal in,” reads the website. “And the best part is, there’s always room for more!”
