A nearly 17-year-old Cuban cuisine restaurant is preparing to serve its final meal in Slidell, Louisiana. Que Rico! Cuban Café recently announced that it will shut the dining room, although takeout and catering services could still continue.
Que Rico! Cuban Café is Set to Close its Doors
Richard Rivera and Iderlin Donna Rivera, the restaurant’s owners, announced through Facebook that their Cuban concept is preparing to cease dining operations. Customers shared memories of the restaurant in the comments.
A user wrote “Nooooo!!! Y’all are seriously the best of the best on the Northshore.”
Another comment read “Literally the best food I’ve ever had and the best serving team in Slidell. So many good memories were made here, from new years to birthdays to me and my man’s first date years ago.”
Other customers suggested that the owners consider a food truck concept or a smaller location.
Located at 2170 Gause Blvd W, Slidell, Que Rico! Cuban Café served locals an extensive menu. Some offerings include Cuban coffee, ropa vieja, Cubano sandwiches, rice and beans, lechón, and sweet plantain.
While the family-owned business has confirmed departure, its takeout and catering services are expected to continue for now.
A Cross-Lake Journey That Came Full Circle
According to Hoodline New Orleans, the Cuban concept first debuted in Old Town Slidell in 2009. In 2018, it moved to Magazine Street in Uptown following lease issues.
However, the Uptown location in New Orleans closed in December 2022. In a social media post, the owners cited several reasons with securing a liquor license being the biggest one. While getting the license was troublesome in Uptown, they managed to obtain the same for their new Slidell location within three months and moved there.
While Que Rico! Cuban Café prepares to shutter its Slidell dining room, customers still have a limited time to try its Cuban offerings through takeout and catering orders.
