KAIYŌ Handroll Bar, the newest concept from the team behind KAIYŌ Restaurant & Rooftop, is set to open in mid-September 2026 in San Francisco’s Cow Hollow neighborhood (1838 Union Street). The concept will introduce the city’s first dedicated Nikkei handroll bar, offering an approachable dining experience that blends Japanese technique with Peruvian flavors.
Created by KAIYŌ founder John Park alongside San Francisco hospitality veteran Danny Louie and General Manager Suzanne Miller, KAIYŌ Handroll Bar reimagines the Union Street location as a new neighborhood destination designed for everything from a quick 30-minute dinner to a lively evening out. While the concept embraces a more casual and playful atmosphere, guests can still expect the signature Nikkei flavors that have made KAIYŌ a Bay Area favorite.
At KAIYŌ Handroll Bar, guests can enjoy made-to-order handrolls prepared fresh throughout service alongside Nikkei favorites including ceviche and lomo saltado, complemented by KAIYŌ’s cocktail program and a full bar. Designed with a Japanese street-inspired aesthetic, the refreshed space features bold neon artwork, playful design elements, and an energetic atmosphere that reflects the team’s vision for a welcoming neighborhood gathering place. Highlights will include tableside handroll carts, creating an interactive dining experience that sets the concept apart while making it easy for guests to stop in for a quick meal or linger over cocktails.
